About this property

Welcome to The San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center

Located opposite the Gulf of Mexico on Galveston's Seawall Boulevard, The San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center offers a high-end setting with multiple dining options, bars, a spa, and a heated pool area with cabanas and jacuzzi. The sprawling property blends resort and conference center facilities, making it suitable for a variety of guests including those attending events or seeking relaxation by the water. Its status as an LGBTQ+ friendly venue adds to its welcoming atmosphere.

The property features rooms with oceanfront balconies that provide expansive views, though some guest reviews note that furnishings and bathroom fixtures show signs of aging. The resort's staff receive frequent praise for their attentiveness and professionalism, often highlighted as a strong point that enhances the overall experience despite occasional minor drawbacks such as room outlets or dated decor. On-site amenities include a swim-up snack bar, fire pits, and multiple comfortable seating areas for both relaxation and gatherings.

Conveniently situated about three miles from key local attractions like Moody Gardens amusement park and the historic Pleasure Pier, the resort is well placed for visitors looking to explore Galveston. Nearby restaurants and shops, including breakfast spots and beachwear stores along the Seawall, complement the resort's offerings. Proximity to William P. Hobby Airport (approximately a 50-minute drive) makes access straightforward for both leisure and business travelers.

As a versatile venue, the resort also serves as a wedding and conference site, with well-maintained meeting spaces and event support. Parking options include valet and self-parking, with electric vehicle charging stations available. While the resort's overall rating reflects mostly positive guest experiences, the balance of modern conveniences and occasional maintenance needs suggests it appeals to visitors valuing service quality and location more than brand-new accommodations.

The staff of this hotel was enough to overcome any negative experience with the rest of the island. They went above and beyond multiple times to ensure our stay was perfect, and it absolutely was. The valets were nice, efficient, and professional, and the concierge and front desk staff was amazing at every turn, especially Skyler. If we could give them 10 stars we would. The room was clean and nice, though dated. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable and there weren't enough outlets by the beds for our phones, but it was a minor issue. The view out of our balcony was incredible, gorgeous sunrise view over the Gulf, only slightly marred by the oil rigs on the horizon. The shower was amazing, super high water pressure. The pool and spa areas looked awesome and clean, though we didn't use them.

Our flight was delayed due to weather back home, and after a long day of changing flights and rebooking prior commitments, we found ourselves in Galveston. We’re so grateful we ended up at The San Luis Resort. From the moment we arrived, the level of service was exceptional. Eric at the front desk was absolutely outstanding. He was patient and incredibly accommodating. His professionalism and genuine care set the tone for our entire stay The resort itself is beautiful, with a stunning pool and ocean views. Between the impeccable staff and the elevated atmosphere, this stay exceeded our expectations. We would happily return.

I planned a surprise proposal for my mom and everyone was so nice and so helpful. Brandy, the Grotto manager was unbelievably helpful and always checking in leading up the the day. Amanda, helped clear out the deck on Serenity Hill where he proposed. They didn’t ask me to clean up. Hayes, the valet attendant was so helpful in getting our party in without being seen and was so kind. The food at Grotto was amazing. Everyone went above and beyond and I couldn’t have asked for a better day and moment. Thank you from some local peeps!

Rooms were spacious but bathrooms were not great. Shower leaked water everywhere. The outside facilities were so beautiful! We sat at the outside bar and Jayden was AMAZING! She was very attentive and gave us great recommendations for places to visit while we were here. Honestly we are from Pennsylvania and we want to come back just to see Jayden.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at this hotel. After dealing with a horrible stay at another property the night before, we had to find a new hotel at the last minute—and we are so grateful we ended up here. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Everyone was polite, attentive, and genuinely helpful, especially given our situation. They quickly assisted us with everything we needed and made sure we were comfortable right away. The hotel itself was spotless and beautifully organized. Every area—from the lobby to the rooms—was clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully arranged. It was such a relief to walk into a place that felt both professional and inviting after the stressful experience we had at a different hotel a day before. This hotel truly turned our trip around. We felt taken care of, relaxed, and appreciated as guests. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for excellent customer service, cleanliness, and a well-managed environment. We will definitely stay here again! A special thank you to the entire hotel staff for their help and assistance. Your professionalism and kindness turned our trip around and we are truly greatly to front desk employees working Sunday, 18Jan26 and Monday,19Jan26 shifts and person that took our reservation at 2am of 18th!

My son gifted me a Birthday stay on the 15th floor, which is key card activated in a beautiful quiet room, with a balcony in the middle of the hotel overlooking the ocean. The San Luis Resort is an upscale hotel and conference center centrally located on the seawall. Upon arrival, guests are greeted personally by staff and a gorgeous large Macaw Parrot in a cage by the elevator. The hotel offers two restaurants, a coffee and dessert counter and a swim up snack and drink bar in their heated pool with a separate jacuzzi. Cabanas surround the pool along with multiple loungers and fire pit areas on cool nights. I slept well in the king bed with ample pillows and a great mattress. The bathroom also offered double sinks which my husband and I appreciated for time management. In the common area on this floor, staff place complimentary extras such as, breakfast muffins, juice and fruit in the morning with snacks and chocolate available the rest of the day. We enjoyed this grab and go treat! The conference center hosts all types of events from business related to private birthday parties. The hotel offers two shopping spots and many comfortable chairs throughout the hotel for visiting or laptop use. Friendly staff greeted us in all parts of the hotel and parking was easy with either valet or self park options. I absolutely loved the very generous birthday gift from my son, which also included a breakfast buffet and am already looking forward to my next stay.

I stayed here for a work conference and have visited previously for similar events. The guest rooms are pleasant, and each includes an oceanfront balcony; however, the furnishings and fixtures could use updating. In contrast, the meeting spaces and lobby have been recently renovated and are well maintained. The true highlight of the hotel is the customer service. Every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. A special thank you to John at the front desk, who assisted me at check-in! When I expressed concern about walking through the parking lot at night, he arranged for security to escort me and ensured my luggage was safely handled.

John Walsten provided exceptional service—he was attentive, welcoming, and genuinely cared about our experience. It’s rare to find someone so dedicated. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!
